DIY Washi Tape Greeting Cards

washi tape at CoolPencilCase.com
 See our DIY tutorial below!

Send greeting cards this holiday season without worrying too much about the cost yet still adding that personal touch! How would one do so, you ask? Well, see the easy tutorial below on how to make DIY Washi Tape Greeting Cards using our Festive Pattern 2-Pack Washi Tape Set (& in case you may want to try other designs and patterns, see our selection of washi tape here).

Step 1 - Fold a sheet of colored construction paper (8 1/2 x 11 inches) to create the card. We prefer the more sturdy construction paper for this DIY project. Cut small strips of your desired washi tape and stack 2 side-by-side to create the box shape of the presents.

washi tape at CoolPencilCase.com
 Step 1 - Start with a base...

Step 2 - Cut a thin strip of washi tape and place it along the middle of the boxes to replicate the ribbon of the presents. We advise using a different, patterned washi tape for the ribbon just because it easily stands out!

washi tape at CoolPencilCase.com
Step 2 - Add the ribbon...

Step 3 - For the bows, cut thin, short strips of washi tape and fold the end to touch the base. This creates a pop-up effect and quickly elevates the look of this simple card!

washi tape at CoolPencilCase.com
Step 3 - Top it off with a bow...

Step 4 - Add the ribbon and bows to the rest of the presents to complete the look. If you prefer simplicity, then you're good to go! However, feel free to add washi tape among the edges for a border or even strips for a striped effect on the back.

Step 4 - Complete the entire look!

& There you have it... your DIY greeting card is ready to be written in and sent off to your loved one.

In addition to being all about the details, here at Cool Pencil Case we're definitely suckers for keeping it simple and sweet. Therefore, when it comes to gift wrapping, we absolutely love how craft paper wrapping paper just embodies that perfectly. Who knew simplicity in gift wrapping could be this easy?

Customize your gifts with one of our newest arrivals, our "Wooden Deluxe Stamp Set." Though these can be used throughout the year on organizers and notebooks, use this stamp set to create a fun allover print on craft wrapping paper. Available in three animal themes, see how these stamps will add a burst of personality to your gifts!

Replicating that design of a ribbon, mix and match and see how a little washi tape can go a long way! Top off with more holiday details, like mini ornaments!

#CPCPlannerGirl: Haute Pink Fluff

If you're looking for some good inspiration for your next desk layout, meet Vanessa of @HautePinkFluff. Tons of creativity goes into her planner layouts, but we at Cool Pencil Case drool over her amazing crafting area in her home as well. Everything is well organized and full of color! She took the time to answer our favorite #CPCPlannerGirl questions today -- see below for a couple of key planning tips and which Cool Pencil Case items are her favorites!
"With the use of emails and text messages, there isn't anything more personal and sentimental than using beautiful stationery mailed to friends and loved ones. I love stationery because it can be so personal and there are endless of stationery companies and prints to choose from. It's easy to create your own stationery and it's one of my favorite creative outlets." - Vanessa

(Included above: Giraffe Charm Wallet and Pencil Pouch Duo)

What do you love best about your favorite planner and why?
My favorite planner is a ring-bound planner because it's so easy customize and make planner accessories for yourself. I always find really cute handmade planner accessories on Etsy and a ring-bound planner makes it easy to update.

Tell us about your favorite and most used planner accessory (bookmark, gel pen, stamp, etc). My most used planner accessories are my planner tassels and page markers. I have them on just about every planner and notebook I have.

(Included above: Giraffe Charm Wallet and Pencil Pouch Duo)

What is your favorite Cool Pencil Case product and why?
The Happy Baby Mega Pencil Case is without a doubt my favorite product. They hold a lot of pens, pencils, washi tape, paperclips, and sticky notes. I love the color selection and the quality is excellent. I love it so much, I have three of them!

Can you give some tips on those who love decorating their planner pages but are on a budget?
I first started decorating my planner using printable stickers that I would find in the free files on Facebook planner groups and mostly Etsy shops. They're really inexpensive and I can print as many as I need. I also re-use any pretty prints or images I cut from magazines, turn gift bags into dashboards or journaling cards, and check out planner related blogs for free printables.

When did you start using your planner and how did it change the way you prepared for the day/week/month?I got my first planner when I was 10 years old just for fun, but I started to use a planner to keep organized when I was in middle school. I would write down all the due dates for assignments, exams, and projects ahead of time, that way I could see how much time I have for each assignment and not force myself to try to remember everything. Using a planner helps me remember things by writing it down, but also eases the stress of trying remember everything at once.

How do you organize all of your stationery and supplies?I use clear shoe boxes of different sizes that I purchased from The Container Store, but really any store has them. I'm a very visual person, so using clear containers helps me see what I already have and remember to use it. I label each one and stack them together. I always see really beautiful bins and baskets to hold stationery, but I prefer to have everything contained in a box. I also use the clear bead boxes to organize small push pins, paperclips, sticky notes that I feature a lot on my Instagram.

How do you decide how to design your planner layouts? How long does it usually take to complete your design for the week or month?
Most people may be surprised that I actually don't look on Instagram or watch "Plan With Me" videos on Youtube for inspiration or to get ideas. Aside from scrapbooking, planner decorating is a huge creative outlet for me, so I tend to stick with what I like and my personal style on a daily basis. I try to stick with using my favorite colors and prints all of the time and be my original self. Since I have a lot of planner supplies, it usually takes me about 30 minutes or longer. It's just something I enjoy doing and love spending time on.

(Included Above: Happy Baby Mega Pencil Case)

How has the planner community on instagram supported your love for stationery?I started an Etsy shop last January to sell my planner tassels and the planner community has shown such a huge support in my shop and my Instagram. I love being tagged in photos that remind them of me or one of their purchases from my shop. I also love seeing the RAKs or a "random act of kindness' when people send stationery gifts to friends to brighten someone's day.

HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE: What to Buy The Planner Addict

Take it from us -- our planner obsession has been at 100 this year. With each new shipment of planners and stickers to innovative stationery, the girls at Cool Pencil Case find more reasons to stay organized and to keep our planners as eye catching as possible. At the end of the day, even our sometimes rough weekly to-do lists need a little color.

Color is something we decided to amp up during our last photoshoot. For our latest holiday gift guide, we decided to pay homage to the planner addict. Some might want to layer on some creativity within the beautiful pages of our Sentimental Circus or Rilakkuma Planners, while some want a blank slate to make each weekly layout their own. Whatever your canvas, don't forget the last couple of essentials to make the planner aficionado on your gift lift smile from ear to ear during the holidays.

Washi Tape
Even our #CPCPlannerGirls have said it, washi tape is super essential when creating any monthly or weekly layout. Highlight days, create borders and bring some fun designs on plain pages!

Planner Tabs
If you've noticed the planner addict on your holiday gift list with a book style planner, more than likely he or she will not have dividers to separate sections. Make sure to grab some planner tabs to bookmark sections or important pages. At CoolPencilCase.com, we have a variety of animal planner tabs and other stationery tape to get creative with!

Colorful Stickers
Just like washi tape, colorful stickers can highlight the illustrations in a character-themed planner and bring blank pages to life. Get more bang for your buck by checking out our sticker collections that feature multiple sheets. Stickers make awesome stocking stuffers for kids and adults as well.

Highlighters
Go freehand! Highlighters and craft pens encourage creativity even with simple doodles and notes. Lighten up with our Pastel Dual Color Highlighter set and go for gold twice with the Beetle Tip Dual Color Highlighter Set.

French Pastry Erasers

Fun Erasers
Make sure the planner addict on your list has a couple of fun items, such as food and animal erasers, or even an innovative retractable eraser!

Mini Notepads
If there's anything a planner love would appreciate, it would be a couple of tools to keep him or her organized beyond her scheduler. Mini notepads are great on-the-go essentials to jot down ideas or important info that can easily be kept within the pages of a planner later.

 Book Buddies Bookmark Clips

Paper Clips
People within the planner community use paper clips in different ways -- whether it's to keep papers together or to bookmark pages, they're better in color and in fun shapes.

#CPCPlannerGirl: PaperPanduh

Maricris of PaperPanduh is another one of our favorite triple threats. She's an amazing creative on Instagram, a fun personality to follow along on YouTube, and a great read on her blog. She's today's #CPCPlannerGirl -- read along and see how her love of stationery has brought empowerment to her and a new group of friends, and of course, find out what her (very purple) favorite cool pencil case is!

A photo posted by PaperPanduh.com (@paperpanduh) on

"I have loved stationery since I was a little girl! I believe it started with Sanrio and Lisa Frank :) I moved a lot when I was younger and kept in touch with my friends through snail mail! Ever since then, I’ve always collected different stationery and cards to write on!" - Maricris

What do you love best about your favorite planner and why?
I have two favorite planners at the moment! I use my Erin Condren Life Planner and my Rose Gold Kate Spade Wellesley. My favorite thing about my EC life planner would be that it has a lot of space to write! My ‘To Do’ lists can get pretty long, so that planner works great for sitting on my desk at home. My favorite thing about my Kate Spade planner is how compact it is. This is the planner I will usually take outside of the house with me.

Tell us about your favorite and most used planner accessory (bookmark, gel pen, stamp, etc).
My most used planner accessory would have to be post it notes. Since I write in pen, I will usually jot down my plans and To Do lists on sticky notes all over my planner.

What is your favorite Cool Pencil Case product and why?
The pencil cases of course! My favorite one would most definitely be my purple llama pencil case.

A photo posted by PaperPanduh.com (@paperpanduh) on

(Included above: Alpacasso My Pencil Case)

When did you start using your planner and how did it change the way you prepared for the day/week/month?
I started using a planner in middle school actually! Using my planner throughout college helped me stay on track with all of my school work. I would use the weekly layouts to jot down all of my homework and the monthly layout to mark down my exams and presentations. After I graduated college - I started using my planner during my job search and eventually for my own business Paper Panduh.

How do you organize all of your stationery and supplies?
My main source of storage for my planner supplies is my Raskog cart from IKEA and some white drawers that I purchased from IKEA as well.

How do you decide how to design your planner layouts? How long does it usually take to complete your design for the week or month?
I’ll usually use my newest stickers to decorate my weekly layouts and pair it with a matching washi tape. It only takes me around 15 minutes to finish decorating a layout. I decorated my monthly layouts throughout the month.

How has the planner community on instagram supported your love for stationery?
The planner community is one of the most supportive groups I have ever met! We actually even have our own planner group where I live called the Pacific Northwest Planner Group - I’ve met so many amazing ladies I’ve become great friends with!

#CPCPlannerGirl Profile: Pearl the Planner

Chances are, you have come across Judy -- better known as Pearl the Planner on Instagram and YouTube. We initially were drawn to her fun washi tape posts and inspirational planner layouts. This month, she reviewed a couple of Cool Pencil Case products, including the Giraffe Charm Wallet and Pencil Pouch Duo and the Arrow Planner Tabs. Check out her Instagram reviews below, and make sure to give her a follow!

Like what you see? Click on the links below the photos to shop Pearl the Planner's favorite Cool Pencil Case stationery!

I know I've been MIA a lot recently but I am trying to get back into the swing of things despite it all. One huge thing is that my photos are all orange-tinted now. Why!? Frustrating! Anyway - I'm working with some really awesome companies. Like how did I get so lucky? I carry all my pens in the front pocket of my backpack. It's all a jumbled mess! I've bought little pencil bags before but I always hated sifting through them, and the Kipling bags I've seen are just too big for what I need. Cue this CUTE pencil case from @coolpencilcase !!! Tons of room and pockets for my pens, but I don't have to dive in for the pen I want. I LOVE it. This is just one side; there are two zippers for more room and organization of my stationery supplies! This is their giraffe pencil case ... there's a cute, small little giraffe on the front of it. I asked for the one in Navy/Hot Pink but they've got other color schemes if you're interested! They also sent me my very first frixion pens! I would be lying if I said my eyes didn't go like this 👀👀👀! What pencil case do you use for your pens?

Describe your love of stationery to us.I've loved stickers and stationery since the Sanrio craze days! I've always been very old school.  I've been snail mailing since middle school but just recently got back into it after seeing how many people are also into it on Instagram! Instagram has definitely inspired me to create again! I love everything that has to do with paper!

What do you love best about your favorite Filofax/planner and why?I only have one Erin Condren planner and I love how the cover is personalized! They recently made them into removable covers so you can choose and make them your own!

Tell us about your favorite and most used Filofax/planner accessory? My two current favorite planner accessories are my fine point black Coleto pen and my Kawaii diary stickers!

When did you start using your Filofax/planner and how did it change the
way you prepared for the day/week/month?

I've used a paper planner since I was in middle school... and I've used it throughout college :) I feel more accomplished physically crossing off my To Do lists! Even though I have a smart phone, I could never get myself to use it as my planner! Since I'm not a student anymore, its more for appointments and daily tasks now.

How do you organize all of your stationery and supplies?
I use a Raskog cart from IKEA :) Google it, its pretty nifty!
